Current valuation practices

This subproject focuses on current valuation practices, routinized in energy consultancies, e.g. EA Energianalyse, and government organizations. The subproject examines how (a) analysts and bureaucrats tinker with established valuation tools and practices within their specific organizational settings in order to promote valuations that make low carbon transition pathways attractive and feasible, and (b) how exchanges, interaction and collaboration amongst professionals from different organizations may contribute to shape and promote alternative valuations. An empirical entry-point will be The Danish Energy Agency. This subproject will be based on ethnographic studies of the professionals’ epistemic practices (Asdal, 2008), entailing participant observations (6 months in total) and qualitative interviews with people in the organization. These activities will be augmented with (1) document analysis of reports, calculations, policies such as tariffs and market designs, subject to problematizations, and (2) a number of semi-structured interviews with other experts. Roughly, half of the interviews will be carried out with key actors in The Danish Energy Agency, and the other half will be conducted with experts representing economic expertise, earth sciences and engineering in Denmark (totaling roughly 30 interviews).

This subproject is conducted by Iuel-Stissing (leader), Jacobsen, Kirkegaard and Georg.
